ANTHEM REPORTS AN INCREASE IN PROFITS OF OVER 900% FOR THE THIRD QUARTER OF 2021 COMPARED WITH 2020

Anthem reported over $2 billion in profits for the third quarter of 2021, an increase of 924% from the same period last year. Anthem also reported operating revenue of $35.5 billion for the third quarter, an increase of $4.9 billion, or 17.5% from the prior year quarter after adjusting for the repeal of the health insurance tax. Anthem’s medical enrollment has increased by 2.4 million members year over year, with membership growing by 730,000 lives in the third quarter.

Anthem also reported adjusted third quarter net income of $6.79 per share, beating analysts’ expectations. It announced that it was increasing its adjusted net income outlook for the year from greater than $25.50 per share to greater than $25.85 per share.

Anthem is one of the nation’s largest health insurers, providing health benefits to one in eight Americans through a number of subsidiary and affiliated companies. Anthem is the largest Blue Cross and Blue Shield licensee, operating Blues plans in fourteen states.
